Our Lucky Day!

A few days before St. Patrick's Day, Bryson came to me and asked me where our Leprechaun Box was. At first I wasn't sure what he was talking about, and then I remembered "the leprechaun box" (a very shiny, gold shoe box overly decorated with stickers of leprechauns, rainbow, clovers, and pots of gold)! Last year our family had decorated a box with green and gold (shiny gold, in fact), so that when we put the box out in the moonlight, the leprechauns would see it and leave a small treasure for the kids! The only bad thing, was that special box was down in our shed at our old home in Nampa. Bummer deal. Guess we would just have to make a new one! Below is a picture of the "temporary replacement box" that the kids made...




So, after finishing their box, they went to bed and slept.... and when they awoke, they found little treasures that the leprechauns had left them. Bryson had drawn blue and orange on a paper inside the box, and so instead of just leaving gold things (like popcorn), they also left a box of Runts (I think a sweet gesture from the little people) and The Bee Movie. Our lucky day had begun! Can you tell how excited they were... (at 6 AM, nonetheless)





As evening approached, we proceeded to have our special family Holiday Tradition Dinner (Breakfast for dinner!) Tonight we served up a tribute to the Leprechauns and featured "green and gold" - gold eggs, green pancakes, gold fries & green fry sauce, gold orange juice, and green milk! It was a delicious feast, as you can see... (although it does look a little Mickey Mousey!)

After dinner, while Mom and Dad were cleaning up a little and getting ready for Family Home Evening, the kids had "Punchapalooza!" What's that you ask? Well, the next pictures should explain everything...

For Family Home Evening we incorporated a few things into one. We talked about the importance of "Bee-ing our best" and doing our best in all that we do. We talked about the different "B's" that President Hinckley taught. We shared different ways that we can "bee our best" as members of our family and with our friends. Then, for our activity, we gathered together to watch "The Bee Movie", which was actually quite a good flick. It talked about the importance that we all have in this world and how we each make a difference. Even the little bees that we view as pesky and dangerous, have a glorious purpose that the Lord has given them on this earth! We blanketed the floor and all got dressed in our green pj's and "flicked out"!

What a lucky day! We got to spend most of it as a family. Although it may not seem like luck is on our side right now, it really is. We really do have a great fortune - our family and the gospel! How lucky we are to live in this country where we are free to worship as we wish. How lucky we are to have been born in this dispensation when the gospel has been restored to the earth. How lucky we are to have been born of goodly parents and been born under the covenant. How lucky we are to live in this beautiful area of the world that the Lord created. How lucky we are to all be alive and well and enjoying each other. Although, I really don't like to call it "lucky". I think that's more a word of the world. The true fortune we enjoy isn't "luck" at all, but rather a touch of the master's hand-a blessing upon us. We are rich with family, with health, with special treasured moments, like these, that remind us of how "lucky" we really are.
